By the time you read this latest blog from Solent Plastics we could be trading from our new premises in Romsey. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan we should be up and running in our new HQ by August 26th and we aim to have our trade showroom open by September 1st.
It’s a major decision when you decide to relocate and choosing new premises to operate from is quite a headache, then you have to consider the physical aspects of moving.
We’re just about ready to make the move at Solent and we thought we’d share some of our advice if you are considering switching locations at some point in the future.
Points to look for in your new premises
· Location – Is your new site in a good setting? Can staff access it without any problems, are there good transport links, will customers and suppliers be able to find your new location?
· Size – How big is the premises? Will it comfortably cater for the needs of your company right now and give you scope for expanding in the future?
· Facilities – Are the on-site facilities good? Do you have plenty of room for parking, will the site be well-maintained?
Tips for moving
1.) Book a removal company in good time for the business relocation. Popular removal companies tend to get booked up months in advance, as soon as you know you are moving make arrangements through a professional removal team.
2.) Pack non-essential items a week or so before the removal date. Use packing crates and plastic storage boxes to keep goods safe.
3.) Have a team leader. Appoint somebody to oversee the entire move, they can assign tasks and delegate work with military precision.
4.) Notify people of the change of address. This list should include clients, business contacts, utilities, insurance companies etc.
5.) Order new furniture and arrange delivery dates. Move business and this is a good time for a fresh start. If you plan to order new items of office equipment make sure you allocate enough time and try to arrange the delivery date for the day of the move.
6.) Move over the weekend to minimise business downtime. Shut down over the weekend and aim to be up and running by the start of business on Monday.
Relocating is exciting and little bit daunting at the same time. One thing is for sure though. We can’t wait to start trading from our 14,000 square foot warehouse at Solent Plastics, it means we can expand our range and improve the efficiency our dispatch and distribution services.
